On behalf of the Twin City Area Chamber
of Commerce, Id like to welcome you to our cities. The Chamber of
Commerce serves Festus, Crystal City and the surrounding area, a community
rich in tradition yet progressive.
Neighborhoods vary from those such as one-hundred-year-old
homes along tree-lined cobblestone Mississippi Avenue to new Festus home
developments sporting the latest designs. People move here to live and
raise children in a small-town atmosphere and safety with many local conveniences,
but still be able to utilize Interstate 55 for a quick commute to St.
Louis County. People remain here for the strong sense of community and
tradition.
The Twin City Area Chamber is proud of
the varied business districts that include Festus Main Street, Bailey
Road in Crystal City, Truman Boulevard (Highway 61-67), Veterans Boulevard
(Highway A) and the Gannon Drive loop. After shopping, you may want to
dine in one of more than 50 area restaurants, grab your skates and head
to our Skate Center, or catch a movie showing at our eight-movie complex.
After all of this, visitors can get a good nights sleep at a local
motel.
Located in Jefferson County, Missouri,
our community is a short drive to Jefferson College in Hillsboro, now
boasting campus housing as well as several four-year programs in cooperation
with St. Louis colleges.
Great recreational time can be spent at
one of several parks, including scenic West City Park in Festus (complete
with soccer fields and several ponds with ducks) and Crystal City Park
(with tennis courts and a swimming pool). The YMCA of Jefferson County
is located in Festus and offers sports, workout areas, aerobic programs,
a gymnasium, an indoor track and swimming pool for year-round exercise
and fun.
Enjoyable opportunities available through
the Twin City Area Chamber include an annual IPRA (International Pro Rodeo
Association) sanctioned Rodeo and a free Concert in the Park Series each
summer. Annually in September, Twin City Days, a three-day community festival,
offers a golf tournament, community breakfast, sports for children and
adults, a dog show, Main Street Entertainment, a Craft Fair, a Custom
& Antique Car & Tractor show, Seniors in the Park concert and
lunch, Trivia Tournament, an oldies music dance and much more.
The holiday season in the Twin Cities has
been kicked off with the Chamber Christmas Parade since 1948. Floats and
decorated motor units, marching bands, sled dog clubs, antique cars, dance
and acrobatic troupes, VIPs, equestrian units, horse-drawn carriages and
of course, Santa Claus, all add to the events ability to warm the
cool night air on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
Further enhancing the hometown atmosphere
is the involvement of 40 churches, Boy and Girl Scout troops and many
service organizations including Twin City branches of Kiwanis, Rotary,
Optimists and the Lions Club. Three local newspapers and a radio station
keep residents informed of what is happening in the area. The business
community supports local schools, clubs, charities, celebrations and events.
The above is quoted from our local Chamber of Commerce. I invite you to visit their fine site,
Twin City Area Chamber of Commerce, for additional community inofrmation.
